Tracking en el e-Commerce

What is tracking and how does it work?

E-commerce consists of the electronic purchase and sale of a product or service via the internet or online services. Payment is made with a bank card transaction or direct debit. The online business platform is usually a website where the products for sale are displayed.

When an online purchase is made, the seller generates a code, usually alphanumeric, to identify the customer’s order (not to be confused with the product code). The company and the distribution company then exchange the necessary information about the package, and a tracking code is generated. The package has a barcode or QR code. When scanned with a reader, the customer receives tracking information by entering the alphanumeric tracking code on the carrier’s website, obtaining information about its location and the time of arrival. This information is updated by scanning the barcode or QR code again at various checkpoints along the route until delivery. Upon delivery, the product is scanned one last time and delivered to the recipient. The seller can issue an invoice, also electronic.

Conclusion

Tracking is a new way to promote a company’s speed, efficiency, and transparency. This increases consumer confidence and also provides more efficient delivery planning and coordination, reducing the risk of package loss or damage, and even resolving problems and disputes.
