Thermographic Studies – What Are They and How Are They Performed?

Thermography is a predictive tool that allows for the detection of malfunctions using the thermal radiation emitted by machinery, electrical panels, and other equipment.

It is performed using a thermographic camera, which is pointed at the element to be studied. A thermographic image is obtained showing the different temperatures of the element, allowing for the analysis of potential defects.

The objective of thermographic studies is to capture the results obtained from the thermographic analysis performed on electrical equipment and installations, to determine hot spots in the installations and thus be able to predict potential breakdowns and failures in the future.

How Are Thermographic Studies Performed?

1. Define the Equipment to be Worked

The first step in performing a thermographic study is to define and select the equipment that will be used for infrared thermography for subsequent analysis.

2. Gather Information

We gather prior information on each of the selected devices, including their location, operation, failure history, and much more.

3. Perform Infrared Thermography

Once we have the necessary data for each device, we proceed to perform infrared thermography on the pre-selected devices.

4. Analyze and Write a Report

Our technical department prepares a report with the conclusions drawn from the analysis of the infrared thermography. We locate serious and minor defects, locate cold spots, and assess the criticality of the defects.

5. Present Results

Once the report is completed, the results are presented to the client along with the action plan and recommendations.
