    ¡New Teambuilding in MIM!

Christmas is almost here, and with it, a new team building experience!

This November, the HR department organized a second team building activity: cooking a Christmas lunch menu.

Currently, we have more than 300 employees at MIM, and we aim to grow as a company and as a team. We are committed to teamwork, as this ensures that work is done well. We also value the human value that underpins MIM’s work outside of the workplace, creating new synergies among all of us.

For this team building, we decided to hold a cooking workshop specializing in Christmas food. The goal was for all participants to help each other prepare four dishes, including a sweet Christmas dessert. The positive thing we learned from this team building was the teamwork we put into preparing succulent dishes, and everyone pulling together to achieve a common goal.

Next year, we will continue holding team building events, as the ones held so far have been very successful among participants.

  • Digital Twins: What are they? How do they work?

Digital Twins: What are they? How do they work?

Digital Twins: What are they? and How do they work?

Digital twins were invented to create a virtual replica of a warehouse, factory, product, or system using real-time data from sensors and IoT devices, that is, with the help of mathematical data (Big Data), simulating the operation of the object and sensor data. A relationship is created between the virtual environment and the simulated machine, allowing changes in process conditions to predict the behavior of assets when they are put into operation. This helps minimize unplanned downtime and schedule maintenance activities in a planned manner. For example, a company that manufactures automobiles can create a digital twin of its assembly line. By simulating the assembly process, the company can identify potential bottlenecks and inefficiencies before they occur in the real world.

What does a digital twin provide in a warehouse? From tracking product location to inventory control, route planning and scenario simulation, the four most important benefits of implementing digital twins in a warehouse are: optimized operational efficiency, reduced costs, improved decision-making, and finally, improved customer experience.

  • How do RFID tags work and what are their applications?

How do RFID tags work and what are their applications?

How do RFID readers work and what applications do they have?

RFID tags have revolutionized several industrial sectors, including the food and logistics industries. But how do these smart tags work?

Regardless of the frequency at which they operate (low, high, or ultra-high), RFID readers emit a signal and then interpret the tag’s response. RAIN RFID (a tag that operates within the UHF frequency) provides the ability to:

Uniquely identify individual items regardless of their product type

Identify and locate items without direct line of sight

Identify many items quickly (up to 1,000 items per second)

Read items within a range of a few centimeters to 10 meters

    How it Works

The tag’s operation is divided into two important steps:

Create the message. To initiate communication with the tag, the reader’s first step is to create a signal, which is emitted through the RFID antenna, according to the system’s characteristics.

The response is interpreted. In the second phase of operation, the tag must respond to the signal. This response is captured and interpreted by the reader, allowing access based on permissions.

    Inventory Management

Now that we’ve explained how it works, let’s move on to the practical application. The application we’ll discuss today is inventory management. An inventory control system allows you to control goods and stock, record movements, and track purchases.

With the information contained in the RFID tag, you can see, in real time, throughout the warehouse, whether stock is about to run out or is at an optimal level. The tags track the goods entering and leaving a warehouse. It all starts with the entry, where the tags are read from the pallet, which then passes through an RFID portal. This extracts information from the packages, such as product characteristics (type, price, batch number, etc.), and uploads it to the cloud. Once a shipment is read, two things can happen: one is that it remains in the warehouse, and the other is that it is sent to another warehouse where there is no stock. When the merchandise leaves the warehouse, the shipment is encoded, allowing the recipient to check the merchandise in the order using the RFID reader. Inventory management can be carried out according to customer specifications, monthly, daily, or annually. RAIN RFID technology achieves maximum operational efficiency with automated processes that change the way machines and humans work.

In MIM, it is used for machine maintenance purposes. The tag, located on the machine, emits a code, which is read by the reader, allowing the operator to know the task to be performed.

  • CMMS Integration

    CMMS Integration

Integration with a CMMS system in a factory

A CMMS is a computerized maintenance management system that typically schedules preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks. To perform equipment maintenance, asset data is collected in the form of a digital twin. Work orders are recorded in the program, in addition to information for machine and equipment maintenance. IoT devices send the data to the CMMS system for analysis and processing; these are connected to the factory, warehouse, or logistics plant network.

What is a CMMS in Logistics?

A CMMS allows for optimal control over the management of asset maintenance activities across all facilities. Among other things, it allows us to easily create KPIs, reports, and dashboards that highlight deficiencies, areas for improvement, and maintenance expenditures at our facility. For a CMMS system to be truly efficient, it must allow for planning, assigning, executing, reporting, and monitoring all work orders from a single interface.

    Components of a CMMS:

    Computerized (database)
Maintenance (recording work orders or repair requests)
Administration (asset status overview, e.g., engine and turbine performance)
System/Software (set of features that a CMMS has)
For example, one of the modules of a CMMS is the Maintenance module. It is responsible for generating work orders, which collect the following information: time used, cause of maintenance, sensor counters, maintenance personnel involved, tool spare parts, and finally, a description of the work performed. All this information is found in the reports generated by the CMMS.

    Advantages of a CMMS

It is key to improving productivity, as it increases equipment availability and increases operator efficiency.
It helps drastically reduce breakdown costs (preventive maintenance) and also contributes to reducing defective products and eliminating unnecessary stock purchases.

Its Stock Management application also helps keep track of the spare parts needed to maintain the assets in a warehouse or work center.
